How to Manage Someone Who Thinks Everything Is Urgent

We’ve all been in situations in which we couldn’t wait for a slow-moving or overly cautious employee to take action. But at the other extreme, some employees have such a deep need to get things resolved that they move too quickly, or too intensely, and make a mess. They may make a bad deal just to say they’ve made it, or issue a directive without thinking through the ramifications just to say they’ve handled a problem decisively.

How to Become a More Well-Rounded Leader

Is there any doubt these are desirable strengths for any leader? Most of us think in binary terms.  What’s good is absolutely good, and the alternative is bad.  Given a choice between an employee with the profile on the left, and the one on the right, it’s a no-brainier, isn’t it?

  • strength

    Focus on results
  • negative opposite

Pleasure Centeredness and Productivity

The Wikipedia free encyclopaedia defined pleasure as s a broad class of mental states that humans and other animals experience as positive, enjoyable, or worth seeking for . It includes more specific mental states such as happiness, entertainment, enjoyment, ecstasy, and euphoria.

The experience of pleasure is subjective and different individuals will experience different kinds and amounts of pleasure in the same situation. Many pleasurable experiences are associated with satisfying basic biological drives, such as eating, exercise, hygiene, and sex. The appreciation of cultural artifacts and activities such as art, music, dancing and literature is often pleasurable.

Pleasure can foster productivity or become damaging to it depending on the types of pleasure one seek and the duration. Some forms of  innocent harmless  pleasures in moderation  including humor can provide relaxation for the body and mind and foster family bonding and other relationships while some forms such excessive drinking can damage health and also foster breaking of relationships and loss of lives.

vacationToday’s world encourages instant gratification and it is available everywhere as never before: television stations operating twenty-four hours for every single day  of the year; every form of movies, both on televisions and online are now available. Internet sites with different forms of video games for  entertainment are also major influence in increasing people’s expectations. They graphically portray what other people had and can do in living the life of ease and fun.

Little is portrayed on these media of the impacts of these activities on the inner person, productivity and relationships.According to Stephen Covey, “The pleasure centered person soon get bored with each succeeding level of pleasures and fun and constantly cry for more and more excitement with bigger ‘high’, resulting in too many vacations  and undisciplined  pleasures”.  When one starts  to constantly indulge in excessive pleasure, life  gradually starts  wasting .

The negative effects of excessive pleasure-seeking include reduction of  the  productive capacity of the individual  and  most of their talents to remain undeveloped; the mind and spirit become lazy and the heart becomes unfulfilled.

The pleasure centered person, therefore, become insecure, loses confidence and start  avoid real work. And gradually it will impact on their income, relationships and may even break them up if unchecked.

humor.pngA good dose of labor is needed by every entrepreneur for becoming and also remaining successful while internment non offensive pleasure enables him to refresh his mind and body. It is should be done very wisely. Humor is one form of pleasurable activity that naturally provides harmless fun.   Humor and other positive emotions foster greater mental flexibility (creativity). Non-aggressive humor can even increase feelings of being eager to work. When we hear or see something funny we feel a desire to tell someone about it and laugh together. Laughter is contagious, even when we do not understand its cause. On laughing together we feel identified with others (cohesion effect)and  when shared, laughter  has the effect of bringing people together or closing distances, or even of reducing conflict; it helps us to relate to others in a more relaxed manner, it helps us to deal with our fear of making a fool of ourselves (to avoid being laughed at, it is better to laugh at ourselves, so that humor acts as a remedy for shyness), it can help us to find solutions to the problems of every-day life, and  reduces feelings of frustration we encounter  when going about our daily chores.
